Whistler: Seventh Heaven Skiing

The last time we skied Whistler was probably around ten years ago. In those days we still didn’t have kids and going up there for the day was a realistic option. Also, the price, or the price that we managed to get, was much more reasonable than Whistler prices these days. With our two kids, heading to Whistler for less than three days seems unreasonable. So for many years we just blocked Whistler from our skiing vocabulary, although it is by far the closest, most accessible ski resort for us aside from the North Shore mountains.

Up, Up, Up

We enjoy taking our skiing vacations somewhat late in the season to enjoy some spring skiing and nicer weather. But this year we were surprised to discover that most ski resorts actually closed before the Easter long weekend. True, it came late this year, but still… So this is how we started thinking of Whistler as an option again. As it was already spring the prices went down a bit, which helped, but it was mostly due to the fact that Gili found cheap tickets online. Accommodation was also “somewhat” reasonable and accessible to the mountain so we were all set to introduce Whistler to the kids (and to ourselves once again!).

Ski till you drop

We enjoyed three fabulous days of skiing both Whistler and Blackcomb and taking the Peak 2 Peak many times. We had a mix of snow, sun, and blue sky. It was spring but the conditions were still winter-like. Kai was keen to ski, although after he accidentally did a black run back to the village, both of us took the gondola down the next two days.

Peak 2 Peak

The highlight was skiing on Seventh Heaven on our last day under blue sky, sun, and with some fresh snow. It indeed felt like Seventh Heaven.

Getting ready to ski

Our Airbnb was cozy and we passed the afternoons watching movies, playing games, and eating well. On Easter Monday we woke up to… snow! Yes, it was actually snowing at the village in mid April. Since we already used up all of our tickets, and didn’t feel like skiing in a whiteout, we decided to check out the Whistler Aquatic Centre.

Ice Age

After a refreshing swim, play, and most importantly sitting in the hot tub we headed for lunch at a favourite Mexican place. Then it was time for a very peaceful drive home, with snow falling outside and two tired boys sleeping in the back seat.

Fun at the Aquatic Centre

It was so amazing to re-discover Whistler-Blackcomb and to share it with the boys as well. I have no doubt that we’ll be back there next year!

Hi, loved your Whistler post, we will definitely be getting these this winter. Fingers crossed for lots of snow! Would you mind sharing your Airbnb, where you stayed? We have had some dodgy lodging through airbnb and would love a proven location! Thanks!!!
