Marriott: A Doohickey Campsite

We were looking for a scenic and relatively short and easy overnight hike to do with my dad. Marriott Basin came to mind. What I didn’t take into account was that our previous trip was in September. This time it was mid-summer and we were accompanied by a blood-sucking cloud of mosquitoes that hovered around us constantly.

When we arrived to the hut Kai exclaimed “what a doohickey campsite”, and we have laughingly quoted him often on this. But you can see why he thought it was a wonderful spot to camp!

While browsing the journal at the hut we found this incredible poem written by our friend Murray Down back in 2013, as well as an entry we made back in 2014.

We made our own entry in the journal, and the kids had some fun with it too.

We had a very peaceful night and took a short morning walk to explore the area. Then, it was time to leave, sadly.

We made the obligatory stop at Mile One Eating House in Pemberton for burgers. An ice cream at McDonald’s in Squamish sealed another great trip!
